9 years ago today, there was an attack on our country by a group of radical muslims, as everyone must already know of course. 153 years ago another radical religious sect attacked and killed over 120 men, women and children of a group of emigrants on their way to California. This event came to be known as the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Whenever this time of year rolls around i find myself thinking first of this event, and second of the contemporary one. Mostly because I grew up in the area and drove past the site daily.
I mean no disrespect by combining the two, I just find it illustrative to understand that even in our "enlightened" times, religious zealotry still exists.
