Crappy cow. Yawn

Day 60

One of my faves. It's for one of the wilderness programs for troubled youth and adults.
Love the backpack and the campfire.

Day 59

Gates Family, I believe, I rather like these, really well painted. These are number 3. The main sign says, Families are for "Heifer". This is a rhyming word-play on a tenet of the Mormon faith that death does not separate families that they last "forever"; into the afterlife.

Day 58

This is where I started my day this morning. Jury Duty.
It sounds so ominous and like a total inconvenience
but I actually enjoyed the process.
After hours of questions and explanations, I wound up not being empaneled. It was still an educational experience and was mostly enjoyable.
Bonus: for 2 years I can't be called again.

Day 57

Graf Family, I am thinking that they are probably one of the original families to settle Santa Clara, but I am not sure. I rather like this one, they even named it Molly as evidenced by the bell. (this is kind of ironic since it is a Mormon community and devout female Mormons are often referred to as "Molly Mormons" this isn't really a term of endearment; it can be quite derisive.)

Day 56

I posted previously a picture from my friend's place up on the hill (day 50). This is the same view at night. Just breathtaking. They had us over for "fight night" though I didn't honestly pay much attention to that preferring to just hang out with Hilz and the crew. On the right hand side of the picture you can see the LDS Temple. ooo Pretty building, but... as for the rest... eh *shrugs* P.S. my Droid X camera, though an impressive 8mp, does not mean it is quality. This is where I find that you can have something that does multiple functions, but when they do, they rarely do any of them well. The above is a case in point; night time photos, yeah, not so much. Also, once again I lived up to my "nightmare auntie Mike" status as I threw allowed didn't mind Kass quite closely enough and he could have (he didn't) climbed up onto the little wall and over the railing where he could have (he didn't) plunged 3 stories to his demise. Again, in my defense, I don't have children, and I did tell gesture for him to *ahem* follow me back into the house. I have now learned that you must have them PRECEDE you, not the other way around. In further defense he is exceedingly bright and I was just exhibiting my faith in him, and his parents, by trusting him to do what is right, not what is fun dangerous.

Day 55

Lunch time with the Turners! This is little Kass. I am happy to report that I did not give him any sharp knives (or dull ones) nor did I allow him to choke on anything nor did I burn his feet with a cigarette. I have to say these things, because last time I let him he got a hold of a knife and I was unable didn't try hard enough to wrest said knife from his grip. And I also said a little very loudly, "Did your mommy smack you?" In my defense I thought she gave his hand a little smack for the knife thing and was just checking, she didn't and I am now branded for saying it. lol Love them all dearly.

Day 54

Ence Dentistry, You can't really tell, but it's wearing a dr's mask, with a toothbrush necklace and the spots are shaped like teeth.

Day 53

Frei Family, much better

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Day 52

Frei's Fruit Market yawn, great local fruit, boring ass cow.

Monday, September 20, 2010

Day 51

I mentioned previously that we are having Swiss Days this coming week, so here are some of the cows. Some of them are numbered while others aren't. I'll be damned if I can find number 1. I tried going in order originally, when the numbers are gone the judging was over. I'm really bothered that I never saw number 1. lol This, obviously, is the entry for the post office.

Day 50

The AMAZING view from outside my friends' new place. Just breathtaking.

Another Cow, sorry, this pic is horribull (hahaha oh I slay me) One of the first ones I took with my new cellphone camera. I will replace with a better one when I can.

Day 48

More Cows! These are outside the Jacob Hamblin Home. Sometime I might take some more pics up there, nifty old settler home.

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Day 47

This cute little cottage is in Santa Clara, I should try to get a better image of it.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Day 46

And of course my favorite photographic subject. Will I ever tire of taking pics of it?
no.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Day 45

This nifty metal horse is outside one of my favorite restaurants. mmm Thai food.

Monday, September 13, 2010

Day 44

Continuing on the light theme from yesterday, these are some solar lights I put along my walkway. I really like the star effect that they cast onto the concrete.

Sunday, September 12, 2010

Day 43

These are my new taillights that I put on my jeep to replace the 3rd light.
The oversized spare was too big for the stock one, found these nifty lights, and voila
Interesting note, (maybe) the wheel is black not chrome, totally looks chrome here.

Day 42

9 years ago today, there was an attack on our country by a group of radical muslims, as everyone must already know of course. 153 years ago another radical religious sect attacked and killed over 120 men, women and children of a group of emigrants on their way to California. This event came to be known as the Mountain Meadows Massacre.
Whenever this time of year rolls around i find myself thinking first of this event, and second of the contemporary one. Mostly because I grew up in the area and drove past the site daily.
I mean no disrespect by combining the two, I just find it illustrative to understand that even in our "enlightened" times, religious zealotry still exists.

Friday, September 10, 2010

Day 41

This area was settled by a group of Swiss missionaries charged with the task of growing cotton and grapes by the LDS Church. For a couple weeks leading up to what are known as "Swiss Days" these cows start to make appearances around the main drag through town. I will be adding various ones for the next little while, there are over 20 that I have noticed. Such fun, I wish the town I lived in had this much character. sigh

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Day 40

I love shadows
I think I will do a series on them. that might be fun

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Day 39

Panoramic from the drive into work.
This area really does have some nice scenery. (must click to embiggen)

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

View from the road to Tuacahn. The red mountains really pop here.

Monday, September 6, 2010

Day 32

Coolest name for a ship. ever.
My brother had to show just about everyone who came to visit him
this ship. There are actually 3 side by side all named with the nicknames of
Minnesota, Nebraska, and this one for North Dakota. Those of you who know
the nickname know it is the "Flickertail State" but of course that's not
what it looks like it says. Everyone does a double take.
If you are curious it is a MSC crane ship berthed in Virginia
Thanks Chris for sharing!
